Welcome to the Islington Veterans Association (IVA)

The Islington Veterans' Association is a community organisation that promotes camaraderie and seeks to provide help for veterans and ex-servicemen across Islington. Membership is open to all who have served in the Armed Forces, the emergancy services, Merchant Navy & Prison service & btheir families and anyone associated with the Borough who seeks to further the aims of the Association, whether they have a military background or not.

The Veterans' Association is instrumental in organising the annual Remembrance Day Acts of Remembrance and Parades in Islington, Armed Forces Day and associated events and other occassional commemorations which happen in the Borough and is closely involved with the Borough on issues affecting the welfare of all veterans.

The Association also maintains a strong social calendar with monthly meetings of the Association in Islington Town Hall, The Association organise trips around the country (which have included visits to such places as the National Memorial Arboretum and the Air Force Museum at Hendon), dinners and other social events, and takes part in various Borough events promoting the Association.

The Islington Veteran’s Association commemorated ANZAC Day this year with a small socially distanced ceremony at the Islington Memorial Green, attended by Islington Mayor Cllr Janet Burgess as well as the borough’s new Deputy Lieutenant, Michael Messinger.

At the IVA AGM, Chancellor, Mick Messinger, was offiically appointed the new president of the IVA, taking over from Dr Charles - Goodson Wicks. He is one of a number of Deputy Lieutenants appointed  by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, all Deputy Lieutenants (DL) appointments being of distinguished residents of Greater London who have served their local community or have a history of service in other fields.

On the 2nd February 2021 during the AGM Dennis Sharrocks stood down as Chairman and Martin Kirk was elected as the new Chairman of the Islington Veterans Association. The IVA wish him well for the future and leading the IVA into 2021 and beyond.

Norman Willson remained as the secretary for now and Mark Samson continues as tresurere for another year.
